We had no parenting skills and no medical background, but we learned everything we needed to know from the staff at The Children’s Home. In the Pediatric Specialty Hospital (where Noah was staying) we learned how to take care of his medical complexities.
We changed his G-tube, fed him, bathed him. We learned how to take care of his tracheostomy and how to hook him up to the ventilator. He was a great coach through the process as well— we actually dubbed him Dr. Noah. He was always telling us if we were doing something wrong. While all of this was happening, we were learning more about Noah’s past and having our questions answered regarding how to take care of his emotional needs, too.
